Forever Remembered: Yahoo! Site Explorer –Last Goodbye !

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Sad news, I still cannot believe this is happening for real – Yahoo site Explorer was closed down on 21st November. We all knew this will happen, but it is somehow shocking to see this, when you try to use your favourite back link checker tool:

Now, there is nothing else left for us, instead to move on and search for an alternative good enough to meet our needs the way Yahoo Site Explorer did it. All developers and webmasters will always remember Yahoo Site Explorer for its detailed reports and ease of use.

So, let us move on!

I would definitely recommend Google Webmaster Tools, if you want to check your own site`s back links. Of course, first you need to verify it with Google.

In case you want to spy on your competitors again, SEOMoz has a not-bad alternative of Yahoo Site Explorer: Open Site Explorer

Blekko, which is another search engine, is also not so bad in providing SEO information, including inbound links:

Example: Type: http://website.com / /domainlinks

Backlinkwatch is also considered a pretty good tool in this respect. May be you should give it a try!

Anyway, Yahoo Site Explorer is gone, so we can just hope there are lots of even better tools to be developed in the future.

Have you ever thought that Facebook misses something so important for you? Have you ever dreamt of listening to music directly through Facebook? Well, I have good news for you- Facebook intends to launch a music service in September.

Facebook is just about to launch a music service. Three of Facebook`s main partners will be Spotify, MOG and Rdio. This platform will be announced on 22 Sept at Facebook`s f8 developer conference. This service will enable users to listen to their favorite hits within Facebook.

According to some reliable sources, Facebook will not host or stream music directly. They will rely on their partners to provide this.

The intention behind this partnership is that Facebook will become a platform for media content, the same way as it is a platform for games and applications. (more…)

The Psychological Effects of Invite- Only websites

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

You should have been up there on the Moon if you have not heard the hottest news which is dominating the Internet for the last month- Google + is now launched!

They used their proven strategy for viral marketing – make it accessible to selected people only and see what happens. The internet is floated by “I need a Google + Invite” threads and “Do you have Google + invites” questions.

Google made the right step by inviting people who influence the Internet in one or another way and they turned Google + into a sensation.

Another example of a highly successful example of invite-only is Quora, which is restricted to invite-only access for non US users.

There are companies, which took on the buzz and started creating ways to give away invitations in return for free marketing. It is not rare to read, follow us on Twitter, Facebook etc., Tweet the following “…” and we will send you an invitation.

This way they are generating massive free traffic to their own websites and social media, which I must admit is a wise step. (more…)
