Facebook “Dislike” Button- To Be or Not To Be

A Facebook ‘Dislike’ button is a much debated addition that thousands of users want to see on Facebook. Still there are thousands that do not want to see it. And we are not talking about the fake scam ‘dislike’ button that appeared last month on Facebook and caused some disturbance to those willing to show their negative attitude towards anything.
As a matter of fact, s ‘dislike’ plug – in has already come out but it is supported only by Firefox which means that only those using the browser will be able to see and use it. Not that it matters – Facebook appear to wipe away the dislike button as soon as you attempt to use it. But let us keep to the point – should Facebook allow a ‘Dislike’ button?
Many blogs and sites like You Tube for example allow you to give videos, articles, etc. a thumbs – down and to rate posts. People simply love to show their disapproval and a Facebook ‘dislike’ button would give many of them what they are craving for. But let us try to be noble for a while. Your friend is in bed, ‘with flu feeling sick’ and the least you can do is expressing your sympathy by clicking the ‘dislike’ button. Your friend will feel like you are telling them ‘Poor you, get on well soon’. Why you are not commenting it below the status is another subject.
Undoubtedly, the arguments in favour of a ‘dislike’ button are reasonable enough but here is why Zucker and Co. are not very likely to approve such a button. People just cannot be trusted to use the ‘dislike’ button sensibly. Facebook is about being positive, being ‘social friendly’, being accepted, being ‘liked’…A ‘dislike’ button goes against all of these, it would be anti – social media. How would you feel if someone dislikes your wedding album or the pictures of your new baby sister? Uncomfortable is the least we can say.
And let us not forget that after all Facebook is all about money. All those company pages and sponsored ads, actually they are the ones funding our beloved social network. What if a company that has invested x amount of money in being promoted on Facebook gets a lot of ‘dislikes’ by the competition fans? There is nothing illegal about it but it is business unfriendly and surely does not make good business sense for Facebook.
Facebook is perfectly aware that it is not a clever idea to ‘bite the hand that feeds it’. To make bad promotion for its advertisers in other words.
So next time you wish to express your discontent about something do as I do – just write ‘Dislike’ in the comment field.
