When you start creating a website you should think about “What do I need to have a successful website?”

Imagine that – you already have your website and everything is working properly, the design is fancy and you are happy that your business is already online. But something is wrong. You do not have the expected traffic, people are not buying or contacting your office. This is the time when you start asking yourself “What’s wrong with my website.” and “What important part I’ve missed?”

In fact, there a many thing that you should think about.

Design and UX

Your design should be up to date. People do not like old looking websites. You should ask the developers to add some of these new things that the users like and make the user experience better. It is not only the right color scheme or style, it is also the interaction.

Usability

People do not like to spend a lot of time searching for information. People like spending lots of time on the internet, but they really hate spending too much time to find the correct page on your website, or trying to register, or the registration process is too lonf and/or complicated. Is the KISS design principle – “Keep It Simple Stupid” and lead by the maxim “The thing should be as simple as possible, but no simpler.”

Accessibility

Ask the developers to ensure that everyone can access the website – reduce the amount of javascript and flash to amount which will not affect the accessibility. Imagine that, if some user wants your products badly and he or she is ready to spend a lot of money, however flash plug –in is unfortunately not installed on the computer and they cannot see your gorgeous website.

Marketing

This is very important, really. What is the point to have the greatest website on the world if nobody can find it. You should start marketing campaign, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), maybe PPC (Pay-Per-Click) buying some banners etc. That will help the website to be visible to the audience.

Content

Here comed the most important part. And it is… it’s majesty The Content. Yes, I suppose you are not extremely surprised, however this is the most important part of the successful website. If you do not offer something interesting or your content is boring to the audience they will simpli close your website. And that’s it. They will never come back, because they already know that this website is not what they are searching for. Add a unique an quality content and the people will use your website!
