Last week Adobe released a public preview of its new web motion and interaction design tool-Adobe Edge.

Adobe Edge is the first professional-grade HTML5 editing tool on the market. The specific thing about it is that Edge enables users to create animated content using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript-not Flash. For the moment Adobe Edge is available for free, as the company is looking for feedback from developers.

What is interesting about the product is that Adobe Edge shares its name with Adobe’s free newsletter, this may create some confusion among users.

Adobe Edge relies on strict HTML standards and does not incorporate Flash. However, the product is meant to coexist with the existing web design tools like Dreamweaver or Flash, not to replace them. By this, Adobe is aiming to enhance its position as a leader in the future of Web infrastructure, especially as HTML5 becomes more and more important in the mobile world.

Last September, when Mashable contacted Paul Gubbay, Adobe’s VP of design and web engineering, he made it clear that the company is willing to support both platforms. The month after, Adobe launched Flash-to-HTML5 converter, the first step towards supporting HTML5.

With the launch of Adobe Edge, Adobe is further backing up this position and promises fast-paced updates to the software, this in order to keep up with frequent changes to HTML5 itself.
